For a new kind of dining experience, try dinner with the underground chefs at “Field Tree Kitchen.”

Housed inside an apartment at Shuangjing, this hidden restaurant is a great way to get that home-cooked meal feel with friends without actually having to do any work.  Run by two guys with a love for cooking, you can grab a spot by calling in advance for reservations.  The “restaurant” only offers two tables that can seat about 8-10 people maximum, so you’re guaranteed to have a cozy, intimate experience.   Per person costs for a 14-dish set menu will run about 120-140 RMB.

They are willing to accommodate dietary preferences for those who prefer to go vegetarian.  Most the dishes I tried seemed to range on the spicy, Sichuan/Hunnan side but were pleasantly free of the excess oil and salt that other restaurants add to this type of cuisine.
